Frequently Asked Questions

A managed IT service is an ongoing arrangement where a specialist provider takes responsibility for supporting and managing some or all of an organisation’s technology environment.

Instead of contacting an IT technician only when something breaks, managed services provide continuous support, maintenance, monitoring, documentation and technology planning.

Depending on the service agreement, a Managed Services Provider may assist with user support, devices, networks, cloud services, cyber security, backups, technology projects, vendor management and strategic IT planning.

The cost of managed IT support in Perth depends on the size, complexity and requirements of your organisation.

Factors that can influence the cost include:

  • The number of employees, locations and devices
  • The condition and complexity of your existing IT environment
  • Your required support hours and response times
  • Your cyber security and compliance requirements
  • The amount of onsite support required
  • The cloud, software and infrastructure services being managed
  • Whether you need complete IT management or support for an existing internal team

Managed IT services may be priced per user, per device or through a fixed monthly service agreement.

Qbit provides tailored recommendations and pricing based on your organisation’s environment, risks and support requirements. This helps ensure you are paying for the level of service your organisation actually needs.

The exact inclusions depend on your selected service agreement, but managed IT services commonly include:

  • Remote IT support and service desk access
  • User, computer and device support
  • System monitoring and maintenance
  • Software updates and patch management
  • Network and infrastructure support
  • Cyber security support and security guidance
  • IT system and network documentation
  • Cloud service support
  • Backup monitoring and management
  • Technology supplier and vendor coordination
  • Employee technology and security training
  • IT reporting, planning and budgeting
  • Project planning (project delivery is quoted separately)
  • A dedicated Account Manager

Qbit will work with you to define the responsibilities, service levels and inclusions that apply to your organisation.

Break-fix support is reactive. You contact a provider after a system, device or service has already stopped working, and you are generally charged for the time required to resolve the issue.

Managed IT services provide ongoing proactive support and management for a regular fee. The focus is on reducing problems, maintaining systems, improving security and efficiency, and supporting long-term technology planning.

This creates a shared incentive to keep your environment stable, secure and productive rather than simply responding to failures.

Yes. Small and medium-sized businesses can benefit significantly from managed IT services because they often need reliable technology and cyber security expertise without the cost of employing a complete internal IT department.

Managed services give smaller organisations access to a broader team, established systems and specialist knowledge that may otherwise be difficult to recruit and retain.

Qbit's Managed Services are designed for organisations with 15 to 300 staff. For businesses with fewer than 15 users, our Service Bank provides prepaid support hours that don't expire while you remain an active client.

Qbit has offices in West Perth, Westminster and Kalgoorlie, and supports businesses across WA, from Port Hedland to Busselton and West Perth to Kalgoorlie. Working with a WA-based provider gives your organisation local expertise, a closer working relationship and onsite assistance when it is required.

A local provider can also develop a stronger understanding of your organisation, your employees and your operating environment. This is particularly valuable when planning projects, responding to significant incidents or coordinating with other local technology suppliers.

Yes. Qbit managed services clients have a dedicated Account Manager who acts as their primary contact for IT management and strategic planning.

Your Account Manager coordinates with Qbit’s technical specialists and meets with you at least quarterly to review your IT Management Plan, current priorities, technology risks and upcoming projects.

If an issue ever needs escalating, it goes from your Account Manager to our Service Delivery Manager and then to a Director.

Managed IT services can make technology costs more predictable and reduce the indirect costs associated with downtime, staff interruptions, recruitment, training and reactive repairs.

The greatest value often comes from preventing disruption, improving employee productivity and giving your organisation access to a broader range of expertise without employing every required specialist internally.

Every Managed Services agreement is paired with a Managed Security Services agreement which, taken as presented, puts your business at the SMB1001 Silver standard as part of the monthly service. Formal certification is available through our Compliance to a Framework service, also for a monthly fee.

SMB1001 is the Australian cyber security standard for small and medium businesses. It is certifiable, which the Essential Eight is not, so it gives you something verifiable to show clients, insurers and tender panels. Qbit holds SMB1001 Gold.
