In the middle of a lockdown due to the coronavirus, a bushfire broke out in Western Australia that burnt through 9,000 hectares of land and destroyed 71 homes.
BlazeAid has set up a small camp in Brigadoon to serve as a temporary campground and management office for volunteers who will be helping the families affected by the bushfires. Dongas and caravans are being set up in paddocks. This campground project is expected to run for six months whilst the homes are being rebuilt.
The collaboration started when Darren Perera of Secure IT reached out to members of SMBiT, an IT industry association, to look for help to acquire an internet connection for the camp. As a response, Fabio Suffell, Director of Qbit in West Perth, immediately brainstormed with his team for possible IT solutions to help improve the living conditions for the temporary shelters.
